MacSween Haggis Canada
Scotland Resumes Haggis Exports to Canada After 46 Years
Scotland is set to begin exporting haggis to Canada for the first time in over four decades. This milestone follows Canada’s lifting of a ban on European red meat imports in 2015, though the restriction on imports of offal remains in place.
To meet these regulatory requirements, Scottish producers, including Macsween of Edinburgh, have been developing new haggis recipes tailored to local standards in both Canada and the US.
Growing Scottish Exports to Canada
The announcement highlights Scotland’s expanding food and drink trade with Canada, which now exceeds £94 million annually, thanks to steady growth in recent years.
Economy Secretary Keith Brown expressed enthusiasm for the development during his recent tour of the US and Canada, emphasizing the significance of this export boost for Scotland’s economy and global reach.
The return of haggis to Canadian tables marks a celebrated step forward for traditional Scottish cuisine on the international stage.
